Payne's Prairie was Florida's first state preserve and is now designated as a National Natural Landmark. Artist and naturalist William Bartram wrote about his visit to the prairie in 1774. At 21,000 acres, it includes over 20 biological communities that provide an array of habitats for wildlife including alligators, bison, wild horses, and over 270 species of birds.
I couldn't help but attempt to capture on film some of these ancient, majestic Cypress trees, my favorite. |
